Red Mirage was bought in Autumn 2022 as a five-time winner from just 14 starts, who ran well all season before we bought him. He was beaten under a length in a Class 2 handicap over a mile at Goodwood on his final run that year, just behind subsequent York winner Substantial (who fetched 160k at the same Tattersalls sale, despite being lower rated). Red Mirage was the subject of a favourable report at the sales last autumn from our trainer, Andrew Balding, and joined John Quinn in Yorkshire. Quinn’s record for improving older horses has been exceptional, including most notably, three-time Group 1 winner, Highfield Princess. The plan

This season, Red Mirage has already finished fourth in a £50k handicap at the Chester May meeting and finished fourth in a decent handicap at Haydock, on ground that was considered too fast for him. He is likely to be extremely competitive as the season progresses, particularly when there is some ease in the going conditions. Red Mirage has targets coming up soon, so we are looking forward to seeing him back on the track.
